Artist: Taylor Swift
Song: Look What You Made Me Do
Stands out: Dry vocals, Minimal production style, good writing
Taylor Swift is back with the first single from her highly anticipated new album ‘Reputation’. ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ is a dark and cynical record produced by Jack Antonoff who also produced a few songs on her last record, 1989. He’s also the man behind Lorde’s ‘Green Light’ and Troye Sivan’s ‘Heaven’. This is the first time Taylor has released something in this style and we love the majority of the track.
It’s clear to see that she’s following the trend of minimalism set by the likes of Terror Jr and Kiiara over the past couple of years, but you don’t become one of the world’s most lucrative artists without a business brain though so fair play to her! The song is really great, especially when you’ve just eaten a bunch of lemons. In our opinion, the only downside to the track is the chorus. We love the minimalism but the repetition of the exact same sentence is a little lacklustre and beneath Taylor’s exquisite writing skills. Still one of the best writers in the pop world! Welcome back T Swizzle!
