Artist: The Swoons
Stands out: Vocals, production
If you like: The Chainsmokers
‘Plug’ is the latest release from American band The Swoons who we have covered numerous times in the past.
We really loved the guys’s signature soft vocals and electronic vibe. It’s very The Chain Smokers, Troye Sivan type of stuff which is right up our street.
The Swoons are Matt Underwood, Tony Ann and Giacomo Timbrello. Currently based in LA, but stretching from multiple nations (London, Toronto and LA respectively). Fans of The Chainsmokers will be familiar with Tony’s work already, as he played keyboard on the band’s ‘Memories: Do Not Open’ tour last year, and co-wrote and performed on their latest single ‘Sick Boy’, which was released last week.
The band are currently working on their debut EP which will be released due in 2018. Further details to be announced.
“We wrote this record last year with it starting out as a simple piano and vocal demo. The concept was inspired by the idea that often in relationships when things are on the brink of falling part we sometimes find ourselves being pulled closer than we were before. You can find yourself closer with someone after an argument if you choose not to let go and so we spun this idea into a song. Funnily enough a lot of the production came together over the phone (yes not even Skype or video chat due to bad internet signal haha) as Matt was in Boston, Tony was on tour with The Chainsmokers and Giacomo was in California so it was a bit crazy haha! After numerous bounces and different versions with different synths and drum grooves we finally had the final production. There was just something about the swinging feel of the drop coupled with indie-electronic flare in the sound design that emotionally for us matched the lyrical content of the chorus.”
